Duties

Performs a variety of warehousing tasks within the Devens Reserve Forces Training Area, Training Support Center, Devens, Massachusetts. Performs duties in support of the receipt, issue, inspecting, testing, and warehousing. Provides customers with classroom, hands on, written, or other training, as necessary, on the full range of equipment within the Training Support Center inventory. Drives trucks with up to five ton capacity. Hauls articles and materials on and off post on public roads and highways, to maintenance repair facilities, and Defense Re-utilization Marketing Office.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift operator's license and certification.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • In this position, the incumbent must be able to occasionally work evenings, holidays and week-ends.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to interpret internal standard operating procedures (SOP), higher headquarters regulations and policies pertaining to training support center operations. In-depth knowledge of overall warehouse planning, documentation requirements and accepted warehousing methods, procedures and techniques to properly handle store, stock, issue and palletize equipment and supplies. Ability to perform function checks to insure items are operationally ready for issue. Sufficiently familiar with all systems to instruct units in systems capability, operation and use. Operate warehouse using accepted methods, procedures and techniques. Prepare inventory and production reports, screens and identifies shipping and receiving documents for discrepancies. Skill in the operation of a forklift with less than 10,000-pound capacity to move, stack, un-stack, load, unload materials in and about warehouses, storage areas, loading docks, etc. and drive vehicles with up to a five-ton capacity. Skill in handling the controls for starting, stopping, backing and driving the vehicle, and determining the shortest and safest route. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Stands, stoops, bends, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lifts material that weighs up to 70 pounds and at times may handle items weighing over 70 pounds, with assistance. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting and stopping the vehicle. WORKING CONDITIONS. Works inside and outside, and is subject to heat, cold, dampness, draft, or poorly lighted areas and works on open docks. Work may be dirty and dusty. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises. These working conditions are considered in the evaluation of the job and do not meet criteria for environmental or hazard pay.
