This position is a Land Management Law Enforcement Officer, GS- 1801-11 working for the Division of Refuge of Law Enforcement, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Duties
As a Land Management Law Enforcement Officer your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Serves as a commissioned law enforcement officer performing law enforcement duties that have been enacted to insure the protection and safe use of National Wildlife Refuge System resources.
Familiarizes other law enforcement personnel with Federal and state laws governing management of natural resources and maintains liaisons, exchanges information, and coordinates ongoing law enforcement activities.
In direct coordination with the Patrol Captain, provides liaison and coordinates prosecution of cases with the state and local courts.
Coordinates activities with the Patrol Captain on all multi-jurisdictional law enforcement operations and investigations with other Federal, state, and local agencies, including all civil and criminal case investigations.
Provides assistance to local law enforcement agencies, including occasional emergency assistance.

- Must complete basic law enforcement training as well as additional training for Land Management Police Training Program, Federal Wildlife Officer Basic Training, and Field Training and Evaluation Program.
- Must undergo screening for Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB).
- This position sensitivity level has been designated as non-critical sensitive. The selectee must maintain favorable background investigation.
Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification.
Minimum Qualification [GS-11]
One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-09 in the Federal service. Experience must include: 1) work performed investigating violations of laws and regulations including laws pertaining to poaching, illegal hunting, or similar wildlife-related activities; 2) preparing investigative case files according to standard operating procedures to ensure they meet legal requirements; 3) reviewing law enforcement regulations, policies or procedures to recommend improvements or clarifications; and 4) delivering presentations or informal talks to the public about the laws, regulations and policies of land management. OR
Three full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree in any related field: natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time In Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet both eligibility and qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the JOA. Specifically,

The Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA),P.L. 114-47, allows certain individuals who currently or formerly were under time-limited competitive appointments at certain land management agencies to compete under merit promotion procedures.
Note: You MUST submit ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. Public Land Corps (PLC) Hiring Authority: Served as a qualified youth on an appropriate conservation project completing a minimum of 640 hours of satisfactory service that included at least 120 hours through the PLC and received a certificate of non-competitive eligibility. Completed most recent Corps service, for which a certificate of non-competitive eligibility was issued, within the last 2 years. Appointment must be effected within the 2 year period.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

DRIVER'S LICENSE: Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license in order to operates motor vehicles, or special purpose law enforcement vehicles of various types including four-wheel drives, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, and small watercraft.
Require to obtain and wear an official U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service uniform.
Require to submit an OF-178, Certificate of Medical Examination, if the form is not already on file.
Require to accept, maintain, and exercise law enforcement authority.
Must be certified in providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid or emergency medical services (EMS). Must qualify with and maintain (annual/semiannual) firearms qualification and must safely utilize firearms, nonlethal weapons, and defensive tactics in the conduct of daily activities.
Lautenberg Amendment: This position authorized the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, U.S.C. Section 922(g)(9)). Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
37th BIRTHDAY: The maximum entry-age for this position shall not exceed age 37, unless you have sufficient prior Federal civilian law enforcement (or firefighter, if applicable) experience, or you are a preference eligible veteran.
Law Enforcement Retirement: The incumbent of this position performs primary law enforcement work and is eligible for coverage under the law enforcement retirement provisions of Title 5. U.S.C. Part 841 or 842.
Education
PROOF OF EDUCATION: All applicants who are using education or a combination of education and experience to qualify must submit copies of official or unofficial transcripts which include grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, institution name, and student name. If any required coursework is not easily recognizable on transcripts, or if you believe a portion of a particular course can be credited toward meeting an educational requirement, you must also provide a memorandum on letterhead from the institution's registrar, dean, or other appropriate official stating the percentage of the course that should be considered to meet the requirement and the equivalent number of units. PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
