What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service. Salary: $59,966 (Step 01) to $94,317 (Step 10) NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

Qualifications

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Statistician, all grade levels. A. Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirement should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing. OR B. Combination of education and experience-course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. For GS-9: One year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of such experience may include: working as a member of a research team conceiving, formulating, and conducting statistical research relevant to biology and ecology; assist with preparation of scientific reports on the results of research activities for publication and administrative use; co­authoring publications and other products that contribute to the scientific understanding of the subject; and applying a range of analytical, mathematical and statistical theories, principles and practices to perform duties relating to analysis of biological population assessments. For GS-11: One year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of such experience may include: working independently or as a full member of a research team conceiving, formulating, and conducting statistical research relevant to biology and ecology; Preparation of scientific reports on the results of research activities for publication and administrative use; authoring publications and other products that contribute to the scientific understanding of the subject; and applying a wide range of complex, analytical, mathematical and statistical theories, principles and practices to perform specialized duties relating to analysis of biological population assessments. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
