Duties

Experience as a Maintenance Worker with duties including routine/minor preventative maintenance of: AC/HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Welding, Carpentry, Painting, Grounds, Forklift/Vehicle Operator, Cement Finishing, Roofing, Mobile Equipment. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents in the installation of components or construction of facilities. Skill in measuring, cutting, and bending wire and conduit to specified lengths and angles. Basic repair of plumbing in buildings, potable water systems and irrigation systems. Conduct annual maintenance of recreation and administrative sites. Repairing or replacing doors and walls surfaces; repairing or replacing fences, posts, barriers, signs, bulletin boards, and assists with repairing kiosks; minor repainting or staining buildings and other structures. Completes or assists with maintenance of tools and equipment used for mowing, weed abatement, spraying of herbicides, minor construction and repairs.

I am skilled at my job and can perform these duties with very little supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance work. I have experience in HVAC repair, electrical repair, welding, carpentry, plumbing, grounds maintenance, and painting. I'm also skilled in the operation of heavy trucks and trailers and have the ability to perform maintenance on the equipment. I can perform most duties with very little supervision. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level. Physical Demands: Field operations are a large component of this position. The physical ability to carry moderate loads, hike over rough terrain, climb steep slopes, drive a 1-ton 4X4 truck pulling a trailer, operate equipment, and use power and hand tools. The work requires walking, stooping, crawling, bending, lying flat and repeated lifting. The incumbent must have good vision, reaction reflexes and depth perception. Physical demands require coordination for hand, eye, and body. The incumbent is subjected to significant vibration when operating some pieces of equipment. The incumbent must exert physical effort related to actions such as lifting and carrying heavy loads (up to 40 pounds), pushing, pulling, carrying objects of various weights, sizes, and shapes. Heavier items may occasionally be lifted with the assistance of lifting devises or other workers. Works on ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and rooftops, and in cramped and hard-to-reach places. Duties require the employee to work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent is responsible for keeping all tools used in a clean, safe, working order. Incumbent calls to the attention of the supervisor, unsafe equipment or working conditions. Works in a safe manner, particularly when working from heights or in deep sub-ground locations that require the use of scaffolding and ladders of varying heights. Work Environment: Work is performed in all kinds of environments from an office setting to project sites in rough and steep terrain. Field work involves vehicular and foot access and may involve accessing remote areas. Temperatures many range from below zero to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Weather may include periods of rain, snow, and heavy winds. The incumbent is expected to use and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and devices such as earplugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, steel-toed boots, flash shield and eye goggles worn to minimize risks while working with noisy equipment, using power and hand tools, when using chemicals and paints in cleaning and other maintenance and construction activities. There is exposure to dirt, dust, sawdust, grease, fumes, smoke, noise, vibration, mud, and ice. Clothing and skin will become dirty, muddy, and greasy. Welding involves exposure to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiations, heat, flying sparks and the possibility of eye injury and burns. The incumbent will wear proper protective clothing and devices such as earplugs, welding helmet, gloves, flash shield and eye goggles and steel toed boots. Welding also includes work in awkward or cramped positions in hard-to-reach places. May be required to work irregular work schedules, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent is subject to continued safety training and is required to follow established safety and environmental health procedures and practices.
