The incumbent serves as the Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) responsible for overall administration of Service Unit Biomedical Support System Specialist program. This position is located at the Fort Yuma Health Center in Winterhaven, CA. The incumbent reports directly to the Supervisory General Engineer.

Duties

Provides technical assistant to all clinical departments, programs, and services. Develops and maintains responsibility for a priority work order system to ensure effective viability as well as ensuring that emergent biomedical failures are addressed promptly. Responsible for management of allocated budget for equipment replacement. Provides technical assistance and repair determinations in accordance with set policies and procedures. Incumbent must be able to write instructional material and conduct training in the techniques and methods of testing, calibrating, and operating medical and dental systems for service unit personnel. Will inspect and evaluate new systems upon receipt to determine that all government safety regulations, manufacturers' specifications, and contract requirements are met. Frequent coordination with healthcare personnel is required. Works closely with professional engineering and medical personnel within IHS and tribal communities. Communicates orally and in writing with medical, dental, administrative, and engineering professionals to determine overall objectives desired.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Interpreting and evaluating construction drawings and specifications. Selection, installation, modification, testing and evaluating of medical and dental equipment. Recordkeeping activities to maintain compliance with statutory regulations and accreditation standards. Provides user and/or operator training on new devices and their functions. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
