DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT
AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:
Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel assigned to the TASMG of the CTARNG.
Duties
JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards. The organizational location of this position is Aviation Classification Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD).
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.
The major duties include, but are not limited to:
Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led).
Sees to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in work crew busy.
Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees).
Works along with other sheet metal workers, setting the pace.
Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. (20%)
WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent works inside a shop. Must wear safety glasses, shoes, respirator, and gloves. The incumbent is exposed to noise, dirt, grease, heat, and fumes. There is a danger of cuts and bruises from handling metal parts. The working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this position.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds and over.

- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
- Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
- Direct Deposit is mandatory.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Must possess a valid state drivers license.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series. Experience or training which demonstrates the candidate's ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed by this occupational series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following:
Experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams.
Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment.
Experience in using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys.
Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments.
Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series.
Experience demonstrating the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment.
Experience demonstrating the ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Skill in passing on instructions, demonstrating work procedures, and providing training toothers.
Knowledge of work procedures and processes, test procedures, and inspection requirements applicable to the work.
Skill in using tools, measuring devices, equipment, and machinery of the trade.
Skill in interpreting work orders, technical data, and other specifications to assure compliance with work requirements and documentation of same.
Knowledge of metal strength characteristics (annealing, tempering, and normalizing) in order to select the correct and proper repair materials.
Skill is also required in using paint spray equipment, brushes and special applicators when applying primer and surface coatings.
Ability to perform necessary testing to identify the type of corrosion present by examination with magnifying equipment and/or chemical and mechanical methods.
Knowledge of various types and uses of preservatives which protect metal and material of rotary wing aircraft components against corrosion and deterioration during storage and shipment that can be long-term.
Skill in applying preservatives such as powders, drying agents, moister barriers, and desiccants.
COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.
MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Appointment): Enlisted: E-4 through E-7
UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within the state
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance.
