You will serve as a HEALTH TECHNICIAN (AUDIOLOGY) in the Occupational Audiology/ Hearing Conservation, Force Health Protection, Warfighter Optimization Direcotrate of NMRTU PORTSMOUTH NH. This announcement uses the Modified Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform tympanometry and special diagnostic audiometric testing under the supervision of the Audiologist. You will select and fit appropriate hearing protective devices. You will generate and distribute compliance rate reports, permanent threshold shift rates, and other pertinent reports directly related to the local hearing conservation program. You will schedule and coordinate the annual calibration and maintenance of all audiology equipment. You will be responsible for scheduling appointments for the Audiologist.

Requirements

  • Cardio Resuscitation (CPR) certification, or ability to attain certification, is required.
  • Obtain certification in occupational hearing conservation within 12 months of hire. Maintain current, valid certification in occupational hearing conservation.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • In accordance with BUMEDINST 6220.9B, this position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • IAW NMCPHC-TM-OEM 6260.7 Health Care Workers (HCW) with potential exposure to blood/ infectious materials (BOPIMs) will be offered the hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) or immunity testing. Declination Form may be required prior to reporting to work.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid state driver’s license.
  • This is a Department of Navy Civilian Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random employee drug testing.
  • In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.15C employees assigned to or subject to being assigned to duties providing direct patient care, either diagnostic or therapeutic must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • A favorable Tier 3 background investigation is required for all Non-Critical Sensitive (NCS) positions with access to network systems and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

Qualifications

For GS-05: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as: - Experience providing administrative support, (i.e. patient scheduling, maintain accurate maintenance of logs, tracking systems, ordering supplies, patient reception and answering telephones); - Experience using various computer software applications, (i.e. MS Word, Power Point, Excel, spreadsheet development), and creating/ maintaining various reports/forms regarding Hearing Conservation Program and other requirements; - Experience entering and retrieving data from automated healthcare systems, programs, databases e.g. Composite Health Care System (CHCS), Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology (AHLTA), or similar systems to track patient records; For GS-06: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as: - Experience screening audiometry on noise-exposed individuals utilizing software system applications (e.g. Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Hearing Conservation/DOEHRS-HC); - Experience performing otoscopic examinations of the ear canal to ensure medical contraindications are not present; - Experience counseling patients on test results, documenting results and referring for further evaluation; - Experience performing maintenance and/or calibrations on audiometric equipment as needed; Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management web site: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=GS-TECH. https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0600/health-aid-and-technician-series-0640/ Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Education

For GS-05 - Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. (If using education to qualify copy of transcript must be attached) - Failure to submit this information WILL result in an ineligible rating.

For GS-05 - COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
