About the Position:White Sands Missile Range is a unique tri-service facility for test, evaluation, research, and assessment of military systems and commercial products. The range is located in the Tularosa Basin of south-central New Mexico 30 miles east of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and 45 miles north of El Paso, Texas. Duties
Serves as test conductor, test coordinator, test team leader, and mission controller. Utilizes a practical knowledge of the construction, operation and limitations of a variety of types and models of electronic and related equipment including acquisition radars, target illuminator radars, guided missiles, ground fire control equipment, manned and unmanned targets and instrumentation and applies this knowledge and operating experience to the actual planning, organizing, scheduling and coordination of test operations and mission control functions. Meets with superior to discuss activity of the section, workload data, problems encountered and recommends changes in policy and procedures to able the operation to be carried out more efficiently.
Requirements
- May require use of protective clothing or equipment as authorized by the WSMR Safety Office.
- Overnight travel away from the duty station of up to 25 % may be required.
- This position is subject to the NJ-04 Nonsupervisory Positions, Journeyman Technician control point of the US Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) Control Point Policy.
- Incumbent is required to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, (5CFR Part 2634, Subpart I Confidential Financial Disclosure Reports) upon entering the position and annually.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights

Specialized Experience: Must have one year of specialized experience at the NJ-03 level with the operations and testing of tactical air and missile defense radars, missile launchers, communications equipment, with direct hands-on understanding of the system.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
