This position is located within the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Office of Observations, Surface and Upper Air Division (SUAD) under the Program Management Branch (PMB) with one vacancy in Grandview, Missouri.

Duties
The working title for this position is Information Technology Specialist (Network Communications Technical Specialist). As an Information Technology Specialist (Network Communications Technical Specialist), you will perform the following duties:
Work jointly with the Communications Team Lead in the design and maintenance of large-scale networks supporting Automatic Surface Observation System (ASOS) and other fielded data communication systems with knowledge and expertise in enterprise level infrastructures, architecting solution sets for the continued operations and life-cycle improvements of enterprise-wide networks.
Develop systems programming and write scripting languages in a Linux operating environment for cloud-based services, concerning data communications secure protocols, managing data flow and storage, data integrity, and storage prior to distribution of time-based observations.
Perform all primary and secondary system maintenance including bug fixes and patches, maintaining database of repairs and modifications to the system(s) as required.
Qualifications

For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify for the GS-13:
Applicants must possess at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Maintaining or operating the servers and networks associated with data communication systems; and
Writing scripting languages for systems programming (i.e. cloud-based services, data communications secure protocols, managing data flow and storage, and data integrity).
