This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Performs the full range of journeyman level plumbing tasks for a military installation.

Duties

Measure and mark gas pipes for cutting, treading and bonding. Responding to emergency repair calls. To patrol, inspect and mark service, distribution and transmission lines. Locate gas lines, line valves and valve boxes. Repair, replace and reroute gas lines after dig ins or replacements. Identify procedures basic to abandoning or deactivating gas pipeline facilities which must be physically disconnected from the piping system. Must be able to operate heavy equipment bar hole, dump truck, trencher and government vehicle. Performs heat fusion and electro-fusion.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a pre-placement medical and annual medical surveillance exam in accordance with Occupational Health requirements.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include overtime, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • May be required to respond to plumbing related emergency situations that could be outside of the normal duty.
  • May be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Plumber ~ without more than normal supervision. The duties inspecting and testing joints, gas piping, gas fittings and fixtures for leaks, defective parts and connections. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Work involves considerable standing, stooping and bending. The employee is required to work on ladders and scaffolds which frequently involve working in uncomfortable or awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. The employee is exposed to mud and water, is subject to infection from unsanitary work sites. Injury may occur from use of power and hand tools and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead.
