You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT REPAIRER in the EXPEDITIONARY MAINTENANCE CENTER of NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING AND EXPEDITIONARY WARFARE CENTER.

Duties

You will read and interpret sketches, electrical, or hydraulic schematics for optimal heavy mobile equipment performance. You will collaborate with journey level workers to repair heavy mobile equipment. You will determine repairs, adjustments, and modifications needed for heavy mobile equipment. You will disassemble, inspect, repair, or replace diesel or gasoline engines and parts (e.g., injection valves, cylinder, heads, cylinder sleeves, pistons, rings, connecting rods, bearings, gaskets, crankshafts) during maintenance. You will use precision measuring devices such as micrometers, dial indicators, compression gauges, distortion gauges, and injection gauges.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Class A Commerical Driver's license (CDL) and the required endorsements within 12 months of the selectee's effective date.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Assisting higher graded mechanics with performing basic systems overhaul on a wide assortment of construction, automotive, weight handling, maritime, and specialized equipment; 2) Operating of a variety of tools used in the trade, including, but not limited to torque wrenches, brake tools, gear pullers, compression testers, vacuum analyzers, electric circuit testers, tachometers, brake lathes, and hand and power tools; and 3) Assisting in repairing heavy mobile equipment which is not limited to transmission systems, generators, braking systems, and cooling systems. **NOTE** This information must be clearly supported in your resume.
