This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. The incumbant will perform a broad range of functions required for the acquisition, storage, maintenance, and access of NARA's archival Federal and Court holdings; including holdings management, accessioning, processing, arranging, describing, digitizing, and preserving archival records and providing public services that support.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Archives Specialist, you will:
Participate in the review of records proposed for transfer to NARA, which includes assessments of records schedules to ensure that records are correctly scheduled and eligible for transfer
Carry out a wide range of actions required for processing archival records according to NARA policies, procedures, and standards.
Examine and analyze existing documentation and pertinent agency schedules to make recommendations.
Arrange and coordinate the transfer or disposal of materials as necessary.
Conduct asset audits, provide technical management of our Holding Management System, and create and update the holdings' Description and Authority Services (DAS) records.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To be qualified for this position at the GS-09 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Utilizing a wide range of systems or databases to search beyond readily accessible material to locate, analyze, index, and manage records;
AND
Performing record maintenance and preservation in adherence with archival principles, procedures and record keeping practices.
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
Combining education and experience: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours may be combined with experience. The total percent of education and experience must equal 100%.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To be qualified for this position at the GS-07 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Performing record maintenance and preservation in adherence with archival principles, procedures and record keeping practices;
AND
Providing customer service and guidance with record research and reference and access services.
OR
Education: 1 full year of graduate level education OR superior academic achievement.
OR
Combining education and experience: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. The total percentage of experience and education must equal 100%.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-05level for 52 weeks.
