The primary purpose of the position is to perform maintenance and repair of architectural components of buildings, installation of building hardware components, complex furniture systems and maintain inventory of interior design assets, requiring the use of a variety of trades and practices associated with the following occupations: carpentry, painting and inventory management.
Duties
Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Facility Management, the Maintenance Workers
perform carpentry, painting installation, removal, and inventory of furniture for areas of the
facility. Typical tasks performed by the incumbent are:
General repair of infrastructure
Moving, installing, and uninstalling furniture and fixtures
Maintenance and repair of complex furniture systems
On-the job training, learning new concepts and procedures and cross training of similar or lower grades
Minor maintenance and interior design program tasks to ensure quality workmanship and customer satisfaction daily
Install wall hung furniture, wall hangings and fixtures according to layouts, blueprints, instructions and facility plans
Plan and measure material according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions and blueprints
Use shop tools such as hammers, drills, handsaws, screwdrivers and power saws
Performs reparation, texturing and coating methods and techniques
Apply coating materials so that the surfaces are free from skips, runs and drips
Sand, scrape, texture, spackle, and putty surfaces
Brush out, roll on and spray coating materials as well as the skill needed to apply other
related methods and techniques such as cutting-in techniques and dip and overflow methods.
Match texture and paint color to existing surfaces
Use tools and equipment such as scrapers, wire brushes, putty knives, sandpaper, paint brushes, rollers and spray guns
Cleaning up of work areas
Preforming other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:
The duty of this position requires the incumbent to be in good physical condition. The incumbent
must be able to work at various heights, such as working from ladders. The incumbent shall be
able to work in positions such as standing, stooping, bending and other tiring and uncomfortable
positions. The incumbent shall be frequently required to lift objects weighing over forty (40)
pounds and occasionally lift objects weighing over ninety (90) pounds.
Working Conditions:
The incumbent is required to work in a variety of conditions that can be dirty, dusty, and greasy.
The duty of the position requires the incumbent to work inside and outside under a variety of
conditions: i.e., inside temperatures range from heated areas to cool air-conditioned areas, outside
mild temperature to humid temperature. The incumbent will, at times, work in the presence of dust,
dirt, spray, and fumes. The incumbent is subject to the dangers of falling while working from
ladders, scaffolds, and roofs. The incumbent may be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises and
irritations and is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary.
