About the Position: This position serves as Food Service Specialist and position is located at Fort Stewart GA. Works in Nutrition Care to plan and carry out work assignments and duties. Uses knowledge of food service, subsistence, supply systems, regulations, organizationl needs and active listening to perform duties and to solve problems.
Duties
Serves as a Food Service Specialist at a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
Coordinates the Nutrition Care Supply needs daily with supply personnel/food service contract staff and conducts monthly physical inspections.
Determines menu item popularity percentages based on review and analysis.
Receives and reviews changes, or updates to master menu.
Analyzes daily production reports to ensure correct ingredients are printed for recipes in sizes and units on hand.
Works with Clinical Dietitian to ensure all items and recipes include accurate and up to date nutritional links and allergen information.
Prepares typed letters, reports and other correspondence using office automation and attends menu planning meetings.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Position is required to lift approximately 35 pounds unassisted.
- Position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours, working either fixed or rotating shift which may include on-call, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
- Position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions, the incumbent may be required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Required to obtain necessary immunizations (i.e., Hepatitis B, annual influenza) unless exempted by a physician.
- Standard uniform may be required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. General Experience: Three years progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level, which includes (1) managing a food service operation in a medical facility; (2) ensuring food is prepared in accordance with nutritional and food handling guidelines; (3) conducting food area inspections for safety, food storage and sanitation; AND (4) identifying and analyzing food waste. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
