The primary purpose of this position is to perform diagnostics and minor complex aircraft repairs. Maintains assigned aircraft in airworthy conditions. Perform Red X inspections, In-Process-Inspections (IPI), engine runs and minor maintenance on major systems and components.

Duties

- Repairs and maintains aircraft. Performs ground handling task on assigned aircraft. - Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components - Performs aircraft engine functional test (engine runs), crash recovery duties and be Red X certified - Accomplishes operational and maintenance record keeping, both manual and automated, associated with aircraft maintenance and repair - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. Establishes and maintains good working relationships.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800, Aircraft Overhaul Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an Aircraft Worker without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies such as fuel and hydraulic systems, flight control systems, instrumentation systems, engines, landing gear assemblies, airframe, and control surfaces on assigned aircraft. 2. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints, and technical orders. Ability to launch, recover, inspect, service, tow, and perform ground handling functions on assigned aircraft. Ability to diagnose malfunctions of aircraft systems and components. 3. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Kowledge of supply procedures, the publication order system, and documentation procedures. Ability to document work performed on AFTO Form 781 and IMDS. Knowledge of tool, equipment, materials accountability, and control. Ability to clean work and job site upon completion of work. 4. Skill in the use of standard and specialized tools and test equipment including fixtures, templates, scales, test stands, and external power sources. Skill in reading and understanding data and settings from cockpit instruments and gauges. 5. Ability to function test; determine when systems are operating properly or whether portions of the system should be repaired or replaced, and the type/extent of adjustment and/or alignment needed. 6. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
