About the Position: This position is under General Dentistry under Naval Health Clinic located at Pearl Harbor side of Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce.
A cost of living allowance has been authorized for Hawaii at the rate of 8.90% (subject to change).
Duties
Oversee other clinics’ sterile processing areas that fall under the Military Treatment Facility (MTF)'s area of responsibility.
Perform all phases of sterilization using appropriate washers and steam sterilizers.
Train staff in sterile processing procedures.
Coordinate the retrieval and delivery of instruments to and from clinical spaces and surgical sites.
Examine all instruments for proper function.
Exercise technical supervision over assigned active-duty military Medical Supply Technicians (MST).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds (lbs).
- This position is a Testing Designated Position. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in sterile processing within 2 years of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: assembling medical instrument trays for medical procedures; wrapping and labeling instrument sets for the sterilization process; checking supplies for compliance with regulations and policies; and decontaminating a full range of reusable medical supplies and/or equipment used in surgeries or other medical procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as: operating room technician, medical instrument technician, or supply technician.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
