The purpose of the position is to assist higher graded employees on the construction and repair of park structures.

Duties

This position is in the Maintenance Division at Harry S Truman National Historic Site (HSTR) Independence, Missouri. The position is supervised by the Facility Operations Specialist. Understanding safety operations when working with various carpentry equipment such as table saw, planers, hammers, chisels, joinery, hand tools, Routers, and other tools needed to perform carpentry duties. Has experience with Planning Environment & Public Comment (PEPC) or a similar system of compliance documentation when working with historic structures. Has the ability or experience to create work orders, track, and finalize work orders into a database. Is familiar with historic preservation practices and can provide guidance when other workers are assisting with conservation efforts. Incumbent offers recommendations for future historic preservation projects. Incumbent assists in identifying potential wood rot areas and offers mitigation solutions that are conducive to historic preservation practices. Incumbent works to create a positive work environment for all maintenance staff and creates inclusion. Incumbent offers solutions to maintenance challenges and can communicate those solutions verbally and in writing to attain compliance before proceeding with a specific task. Incumbent can work by themselves or with a team. Incumbent has experience and can assist with painting. Incumbent can plan, document and complete projects that ensure long-term preservation of park historic structures. Building and /or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance mechanics. Carpentry, painting, plumbing, roofing, electrical, cement work, masonry Operation of various types of motor vehicles, loaders, bobcat, and other equipment. Works from sketches, work orders, basic blueprints and verbal instructions which are complete in terms of type of job required and materials and methods to be used. Responsible for detailed layout, selection of tools and materials and for accuracy, completeness and adherence to standards.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: SCREENOUT: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision for the Carpentry Worker, WG-4607-07 position. Perform common maintenance worker duties associated with more than one trade area such as carpentry, painting, roofing, siding, building maintenance, and other trades appropriate to this position without more than normal supervision. Take initiative to solve problems and accomplish work assignments in a safe manner. Use a variety of tools, and equipment in a safe manor and the ability to maintain and store. Tasks assigned to are inspected upon completion by work leader or supervisor for conformance to requirements. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsMeasurement and LayoutTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
