This position entails overseeing and providing the administrative and technical support for special projects such as major events, exhibits, and educational tours. It is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Office of the Director (OD), Office of Communications and Public Liaison (OCPL), Special Events and Visits Branch.

Duties

Provides administrative functions for the branch. Identifies communications needs of a program area and develops informational materials that inform agency’s policies, programs, and services. Analyzes agency information program materials and offers recommendations for improving the delivery of program information to affected individuals and groups. Establishes and maintains contact with key officials within the agency and the general public. Responds to inquiries received by mail and over the telephone. The employee researches, writes, edits and generates agendas, and other communication pieces for events.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Public Affairs Specialist, GS-1035 position at the GS-09 level, you must have: A. completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR B. 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Monitoring the status of planned media events or conferences; Creating and proposing materials such as brochures and flyers to enhance public awareness campaigns; Preparing informative briefings for the general public; Developing and distributing accurate and engaging content about an organization's programs or projects. OR In order to qualify for a Public Affairs Specialist, GS-1035 position at the GS-11 level, you must have: A. completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M., if related; OR B. 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Writing, editing, and reviewing news advisories, press releases, government or professional correspondence and talking points; Implementing communication plans to bolster an organization's visibility and impact; Developing written communication materials pertinent to the organization's initiatives: AND Analyzing information materials and programs to make recommendations regarding communication strategies; OR C. a combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
