This position is located within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Central Virginia VA Health Care System (CVHCS), at the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FXHCC). This position functions as a Motor Vehicle Operator for the Engineering section. This includes transporting VAMC personnel, equipment, supplies and other items essential to the support of core functions between the FXHCC and the main campus of the Richmond VAMC.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for dispatching of General Services Administration vehicles, coordinating needed maintenance and repairs, keeping vehicles clean. Operates all vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to approximately 29,500 lbs. in order to carry out all the functions of Engineering Service and support the needs of the FXHCC. Transports patients, medical records, medical equipment, supplies, linen, mail, VAMC personnel and other items essential to the day-to-day operations of the FXHCC. Operates gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles over Federal, state, and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions and is required to load and unload vehicles. Makes special touring trips to different locations as requested. Completes all maintenance service records to document activities. Performs other related duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: VHA experience preferred SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Physical Requirements: The duties performed consist of climbing in and out of vehicles, moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on or in to load or tie down cargo. Incumbent works in all weather conditions, pushing and pulling laundry carts and supplies; climbing steps, etc. Incumbent must be physically sound and have good coordination of eyes, hands, feet, and vision and depth perception. Incumbent must be mentally alert to traffic hazards and dangers. Working Conditions: Operates vehicles in all types of weather and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Incumbent may be exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle. Incumbent performs any other duties properly assigned. Incumbent may be required to work in the laundry due to breakdowns and/or shortage of staff.
