You will serve as an ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the Environmental Support Branch of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will provide input in the development and updating of Standard Operating Procedures for the Hazardous Waste Management Program. You will conduct Quality Control Evaluations of Hazardous Waste Operations as directed by the Quality Control Coordinator. You will assign environmental project tasks based on alignment with organizational objectives and priorities. You will administer formal instruction to employees on environmental and safety hazards. You will generate Environmental Management System (EMS) reports to provide program updates to management.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a Forklift/ Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Operator’s License, within 90 days of onboarding, and maintain thereafter.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Overseeing the collection, transport, handling, repackaging, storing and preparation of hazardous waste for shipment; 2) Ensuring that stored hazardous wastes are in the proper physical location within facility and safely stacked and segregated to prevent accidental mixing of incompatible materials; 3) Establishing and maintaining communication networks essential to the efficient management of the Hazardous Waste Management System; and 4) Collecting samples of water, air, soil, and unknown and known hazardous wastes, using varying collection devices. Education

Applicants that do not meet the specialized experience listed under the Qualifications section may qualify with education or a combination of specialized experience and education as follows:

Master's Degree or equivalent graduate degree,

OR

Two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree,

OR

LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled,

OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
