About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Answer workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and work methods. Pass instructions received from the Supervisor to work force. Check the progress of work to ensure compliance with Supervisor's instructions. Provide status to Supervisor on progress of work. Determine work methods and trade techniques to repair, rebuild and/or modify transmissions, hydrostatic steering units, and components.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc., must satisfactorily complete and pass a pre-employment and the appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.
  • Must obtain and maintain a crane license.

Perform common Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader duties such as inform employees of instructions received by the supervisor. Assign immediate tasks to be performed ensuring there is adequate work to keep the workers busy. Answer questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and technical orders. Update supervisor on the status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operation s. Ensure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed. extensive knowledge/ experience in the repair, rebuild, overhaul and modification of combat vehicles: Inform employees of instruction received from line of supervision; assign immediate tasks to be performed by individual employees; check work in progress until completion, make sure the job is done in compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines; answer worker's question regarding procedures, policies, and written instruction; and provide information to the supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delay, overall work operation and problems that may occur. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble ShootingUse of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Work involves standing, stooping and working in tiring positions. Constantly lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally is required to lift items in excess of 45 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: The test consoles are located in rooms that are air conditioned, adequately lighted and ventilated. The test stands are located in room adjacent to office and become very warm due to heat of engines. This room is also adequately lighted and ventilated. Work is dirty and greasy and incumbent is subject to cuts and bruises from use of tools and equipment and working in close places. The work is performed in area where the noise is disagreeable, making it extremely difficult to talk and be able to hear and understand instructions. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable smoke and fumes from exhaust of transmissions. Is required to wear safety shoes and use ear protection.
