This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Civilians of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as a Shift Supervisor for the Security Guard force.
Duties
Serves as a Shift Supervisor who exercises direct supervision of the activities of a guard force shift consisting of subordinate Security Guards .
Performs a diverse range protective responsibilities over Federal property, employees, and visitors.
Makes decisions according to the nature of perceived threat, as from demonstrators or other organized subversive actions,
Responsible for assisting with suppression of riots; demonstrations and disorders; traffic and crowd control.
Performs supervisory and administrative duties relating to the security guard force.
Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
- The incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
- The incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle requiring the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban (Lautenberg Amendment) which bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Due to the nature of this position, incumbent is required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime, and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- In accordance with (IAW) Army Regulation (AR) 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
- The incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- The incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- The incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56.
- The incumbent must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform in accordance with AR 190-56, maintaining a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- The incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- The incumbent must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability requiring incumbent to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield, and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.
- This position has been designated as Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- The incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques and must know First Aid. The incumbent may act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includesassisting with leading personnel performing security procedures with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization. Safeguarding personnel, information, and critical assets, using physical access control equipment, regulating pedestrian/vehicular traffic such as providing initial response to traffic accidents and answering regulatory/procedural questions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
