About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX.
Duties
Prepare menu items requiring multiple steps ingredients, and preparation times for special events.
Cook all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, sauces, and gravies for regular and modified diet menus for entire meals.
Test and evaluate new food products and recipes.
Wash heavy pots, pans, dishes, trays and serviceware, manually or using mechanical equipment.
Recommend new recipes.
Perform a variety of maintenance and cleaning duties in the kitchen areas.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) COOK ~ without more than normal supervision. I have knowledge of food preparation techniques including techniques and procedures for developing recipes. I have the ability to read and understand food labels, work instructions and metric conversion tables. I have knowledge of special and modified diets. I have knowledge of kitchen safety standards. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Work requires continual standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted. Occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in kitchen areas that are well lighted but often hot and noisy. Employee is exposed to steam, vapors and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering and exiting walk-in refrigeration and freezing units. There in danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled. Employee is subject to possible cuts from knives and to burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, and hot grease and water.
