THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION
This National Guard position is for a Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft), Position Description Number D0416000 and is part of the FL AASF 2, National Guard.
Duties
As a Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft), WG-3806-10, you will inspect and troubleshoot aircraft structures such as fuselage, tail, wings, cowlings and stabilizers. Determine the nature and extent of repairs to be made using applicable Technical Manuals (TMs) as guidelines. Remove, fabricate, repair, modify, and install parts and assemblies, such as frames, stringers, longerons, bulkheads, beams, ribs, spars, skin, cowling, brackets, fairing, stressed and double contour skins using hand or powered tools and a variety of metal working equipment. Fit and trim components to aircraft such as loading gear doors, ailerons, flaps, engine access doors and similar assemblies. Perform fabrication of local manufactured items required for facility support. Work includes layout, bending, cutting, forming and assembling. Devise and calculate patterns employing the principles of triangulation, radial, and parallel line development. Align component structures and airframe using precision optical measuring instruments, plumline and level.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Subject to danger involved in or resulting from: use of powered shop equipment, high pressure gas cylinders and high electrical voltage; swiftly activated hydraulic or pneumatic metal aircraft assemblies, such as landing gear, speed brakes, flaps, and other components; working near aircraft, jet blast, heat, fuel, oil, high noise levels, icy ramps, wet or slippery surfaces of aircraft and work stands. Subject to cuts and burns, eye strain and skin irritation from fumes, paints, and fluids. Works outdoors and indoors.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds and over.
Requirements
- National Guard Membership is required.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Security Clearance requirements are determined by position and/or MOS/AFSC compatibility.

Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Federal Civil Service "under the authority of 32 U.S.C. 709", and is open to Category 1: All permanent/indefinite (T32 and T5) technicians employed by the agency Category 3: All current military members of the Florida National Guard; and Category 4: All individuals who qualify for membership in the Florida National Guard and are willing to become T32 Dual Status technicians. First consideration will be given to Category 1.
PCS: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs, Recruitment or Relocation Incentive MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses, Recruitment or Relocation Incentive will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard.

MILITARY GRADES: Enlisted; E4 thru E7.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:WG-10 must have at least 18 months experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams. Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment. Experience in using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys. Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments.
