This position is located at the VA Medical Center in San Diego, California. The Secretary (Office Automation) provides administrative and support functions to Primary Care Service.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Receives visitors and telephone calls to the office;
Maintains calendar for appropriate staff and schedules appointments;
Performs office automation work; prepares meeting minutes; and utilizes various hardware and software in the performance of duties;
Follows up on action items to ensure timely response;
Prepares forms, memorandums, reports, and other correspondence, ensuring proper grammar, spelling, and format; and prepares and maintains current guidelines and manuals pertinent to the department;
Prepares travel arrangements for staff; and coordinates conferences and meetings, including preparing agendas;
Serves as timekeeper for the service;
Maintains office supplies and equipment; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. ~AND~
To qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, applicants must meet the following:
Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal Service, that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Secretary (Office Automation), GS-6 position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized Experience Includes: receiving visitors and telephone calls to the office; scheduling appointments; coordinating meetings and conferences; preparing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication; preparing travel arrangements; utilizing office automation software and maintaining files. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~AND~
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the person in this position may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
