The incumbent is an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Equipment Mechanic for Chalmers P. Wylie Veterans Clinic in Columbus, Ohio. The position is established to provide journeyman-level work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of machinery and equipment associated with the air conditioning and refrigeration trades and crafts.

Duties

Major Duties: Installs, maintains, repairs, and operates air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation systems, and components. Install, repair, maintain, and operate ice machines, cooling towers, pumps, various types and sizes of fans, motors, belts, couplings, and pulleys required for air movement, water flow, refrigerant flow, and other working fluids. Observes and interprets temperature and pressure gauges and recorders. Adjusts manual and automatic controls to gain proper work from the flow of refrigerant fluids. Disassembles, cleans, and reassembles moisture, oil, and sediment traps, filters, and strainer assemblies, detects scale, and corrosion, and applies proper preventive chemical treatment. Provide brief oral or written instructions, maintenance schedules, trouble calls, or work orders. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 12:00 a.m.-8:30a.m Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic/PD034630 Physical Requirements: Incumbent required to stand, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Must have sufficient physical strength to move large heavy equipment weighing more than 100 pounds and to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
