Joining the Secret Service, Office of Protective Operations, will allow you to support security assignments to mitigate threats and provide access control to facilities, residences, and/or other special access areas used and/or owned by the Secret Service.

Duties
The selectee will serve as a Protection Officer in the Office of Protective Operations. Typical work assignments include:
Monitoring and operating various audio/visual communications equipment, alarm systems, and access gates to the facility or residences.
Utilizing security screening procedures (e.g., magnetometer and x-ray screening technology) prior to allowing individuals entrance to a secured area and controls access of visitors and contractors.
Preparing written reports for all activities, observations, incidents.
Advising leadership on how to improve security gaps to increase the safety of occupants and/or visitors to facilities; and
Detecting and identifying suspicious packages that necessitates coordination with canine and/or Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams
Qualifications
To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying.
Qualifications:
GS- 07- You qualify for the GS-7 level (starting salary $55,924.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level performing duties such as:
Maintaining designated security post; OR
Managing visitor access; OR
Patrolling or guarding grounds, facilitates and/or residences.
GS-08 - You qualify for the GS-8 level (starting salary $61,933.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level performing duties such as:
Maintaining designated security post; or managing visitor access; or patrolling or guarding grounds, facilitates and/or residences. AND
Operating security monitoring devices (e.g., magnetometers and x-ray screening technology); OR
Responding to various types of security situations (e.g., inappropriate, or suspicious behavior or activity).
GS-09 - You qualify for the GS-9 level (starting salary $68,405.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level performing duties such as:
Maintaining designated security post; or managing visitor access; or patrolling or guarding grounds, facilitates and/or residences. AND
Operating security monitoring devices (e.g., magnetometers and x-ray screening technology); or responding to various types of security situations (e.g., inappropriate, or suspicious behavior or activity). AND
Conducting inspections, reporting deficiencies, and recommending security and/or safety improvements; OR
Taking violators into custody; OR
Detecting and identifying suspicious packages.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
