This position is located in Refugee, Asylum & International Operations, Asylum Division, Arlington Asylum Office. As a Supervisory CIS Assistant OA, you will examine applications for immigration benefits, prepare replies to applicants, and guide others who conduct preliminary reviews of immigration benefits cases.

Duties

Supervising and managing staff who conduct a preliminary review of applications and petitions for immigration benefits. Directing staff to respond timely and appropriately to customer and stakeholder inquires. Developing procedures, techniques, and policy guidance for staff. Preparing reports and performing difficult and complex phases of immigration application examination work.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 11/12/2024. Time in Grade does not apply to Delegated Examining Announcements, any reference to Time in Grade in the questionnaire will not apply to the rating and ranking of applicants. This is a one-graded interval series position. In a one-grade interval series, experience at the second lower grade level may be credited when there is no position in the normal line of progression that is one grade lower than the position being filled. An applicant can qualify with at least one year at either the next lower level or the second lower level. To qualify for the GS-9 you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the second lower level, GS-7 in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. (One year of specialized experience at the second lower level is creditable for in service applicants only; for outside applications, one year of specialized at the next lower grade level of GS-8 is required). GS-09: You qualify at the GS-09 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Providing technical guidance to those who conduct a preliminary review of applications and petitions for immigration benefits. Conducting a preliminary review of applications and petitions filed for immigration benefits, which includes examining and reviewing documentation to determine eligibility and providing technical advice about policies, laws, and regulations.
