You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the Initial Testing Department Screening Division of NAVDRUGLAB JAX FL.

Duties

You will implement laboratory operations, procedures, and safety requirements. You will review and process data for forensic drug testing. You will assure that the work assignments are carried out by balancing workload, making adjustments in workflow, instructing in tasks and techniques and provide on the job training. You will generate initial testing reports and provide technical review of all initial and re-screen immunoassay data. You will with the supervisor determine course of action for failed batches and controls.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain laboratory technical certifications in accordance with the timeframes specified in the Laboratory Operating Procedures.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-5 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience utilizing, maintaining and making corrective adjustments on immunoassay technology, high-speed screening analyzers and other laboratory equipment. Experience maintaining detailed simple identification and inventory control systems. Experience processing drugs of abuse screening programs, objectives, policies, and operational procedures (examples: legal specimen chain of custody requirements, physical security requirements, and requirements for absolute compliance with standardized operational procedures). Experience working to prevent illness and/or injury while working with potentially infectious biological specimens.
