This position is located within the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Regional Branch Offices, with one vacancy located in Anchorage, AK. Duties

The working title for this position is IT Specialist. As an IT Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Provide guidance to users for Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software and locally developed software; resolve problems with software, hardware and systems management. Apply desktop upgrades and software deployments, install and maintain software and hardware, optimize the functionality of networks and systems; diagnose and recover failed systems. Identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities, risks, and maintain server integrity and availability. Provision new desktops, servers, and mobile devices; performs analysis of new and existing hardware as well as testing and acceptance of equipment. These duties are described at the full performance level of the GS-12; the GS-11 is developmental leading to such performance.

Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Strategizing IT solutions for customers and internal and external stakeholders; Contributing to the maintenance of IT security systems; and Identifying issues within software and hardware. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. NOTE: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Attach a copy of transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit. To qualify at the GS-12 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the IT Competencies above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Providing and advising IT solutions to customers and internal and external stakeholders; Managing and maintaining the security and optimization for IT systems; and Evaluating, testing, and solving software and hardware issues for quality assurance.
