This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. Office of Presidential Libraries, Joseph Biden Presidential Library. Incumbent serves as a Museum Technician performing a variety of technical duties in connection with the management of the museum collection, including inventorying, registration, documentation and digitization of museum objects. Duties also include exhibit work, public outreach and professional support within and outside the department.

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-7. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As a Museum Technician (History), you will: Ensure inventory information is accurate in the collections management system and manage physical conditions of the collection. Use digital camera(s) and/or scanner(s), creates clear, appropriate digital images for a wide variety of artifacts and collection records following standard museum and NARA guidelines. Complete assigned tasks related to exhibit research, object selection, and text editing and formatting, as needed. Gather data for reporting and develop and create content for social media platforms. Apply agency-wide and site-specific methods and standards for accessioning and cataloging, including numbering, description, object labeling, and other associated tasks for museum holdings.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-7, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. This experience must be related to the operation or management of a museum. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience: Museum collection Inventory control consisting of records, reports and resolving inventory anomalies according to established SOPs and/or procedures; AND Following established procedures to ensure objects of historical or cultural significance are protected from environmental hazards, such as extreme temperature/humidity, mold, damaging lighting conditions, or pests; AND Assisting in cataloging or inventorying objects in museum collections. OR EDUCATION: One full academic year of related graduate level education where it is directly related to the work of the position. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F): For the GS-7, you must have been at the GS-6level for 52 weeks. For the GS-6, you must have been at the GS-5level for 52 weeks.
