About the Position: Perform a variety of paralegal duties in connection with the records of trial undergoing appellate review before the United States Army Court of Criminal Appeals. The position is located at Fort Belvoir, VA.

Duties

Provide paralegal support to stakeholders during all stages of appellate review. Verify citations and/or legal references included on legal documents for accuracy. Receive and track court-martial records such as: records of trial, briefs, writs, motions, and/or memoranda. Ensure appellate exhibits are presented and organized correctly for the clerk of court and judges. Compose a variety of written products such as: memoranda, notices, orders, correction certificates and/or essential correspondence related to cases.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilize court database systems to generate reports for use in tracking/regulating the court's workload; apply knowledge of the military justice system to assist in processing court-martial records of trial; and conduct legal research to assist with case preparation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Pre-Law or Paralegal Studies. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Legal, Government and JurisprudenceManages and Organizes Information Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
