The primary purpose of this position is to provide emergency fire, and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. Maintains an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to ensure prompt and accurate response.
Duties
Provides emergency 911 call taking and dispatching services.
Performs dispatch instructions to distraught callers with medical emergencies.
Operates and maintains telephones, automated data processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment and other devices Installed In the dispatch center.
Maintains reports and retrieves needed statistical information using the required fire Incident reporting system(s).

- Incumbent must enroll and complete International Fire Service Accreditation Congress Certification as Telecommunicator I/II within 6 months of hire. Government provided course
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification within 30 days of hire
- This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions present a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, (CONT'D)

- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Hazardous Materials Awareness Level Certification within one year of hire

- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis
- Requires hearing (H-1) profile for entry and must maintain an H-2 profile each year
- Required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires uncommon tour of duty (including weekends and holidays)
- Must be able to report to duty and perform assigned duties regardless of weather conditions (i.e., hurricane ride out team)
- Direct Deposit: All federal employees are required to have direct deposit
- Must be able to respond from off-duty time during a conflagration, stay over until an emergency has been terminated or until properly relieved by a qualified operator
- May be required to travel TDY as directed by management, sometimes on short notice and including overnight stays, traveling by military or commercial aircraft or by any other designated means
- Required to wear Fire Emergency Services duty uniform as determined by supervisor. Member reimbursed cost up to $800
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance

"Salary Range: This is an NK-02 position with full salary potential within that band, however the initial salary range offered for this position will be $39,841 to $64,159 which includes locality pay percentage, unless statutory or regulatory rules prevail. Follow on salary increases based on contribution MAY be earned within the full salary of the NK-02 pay band."
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, Dispatching Series 2151
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NK-01, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include Knowledge of communications operations procedures. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval and input of data. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand.

EDUCATION: 4 years above high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You must provide transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of communications operations procedures.
2. Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval and input of data. A qualified typist is not required.
3. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand.
4. Ability to prioritize and organize tasks and work independently without immediate supervision.
5. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations.
6. Ability to maintain good working relationships both within and outside the organization, maintaining a consistently courteous attitude at all times.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
