Duties
Perform a wide range of complex physical therapy duties requiring an advanced practical knowledge of physical therapy, evidence-based medicine and data collection.
Responsibilities include providing evaluation and therapeutic interventions to a full range of wounded, ill, and injured service members.
Responsibilities include physical rehabilitation, musculoskeletal extremity injury, spine complications and/or injuries, neurological injuries/impairments, pain, and concomitant behavioral health disorders.
Develop complex, goal-oriented treatment plans for patients presenting with a multiplicity of dysfunction and impairments in physical, functional.
Plan goal-oriented group and/or focused individual PT treatment programs, selecting activities to increase or improve muscle strength, range of motion and coordination.
Teach alternative or compensatory techniques for rehabilitation, reconditioning, and functional tasks regardless of physical, mental, and/or cognitive deficits.
Develop protocols and standard operating procedures (SOP) for PT programs. Serves as PT subject matter expert for designated program.
Contribute input for program development and U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) guidance as needed to ensure program consistency and practice standardization across Army medicine.
Serve as a member of various integrated, interdisciplinary/planning teams that plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate individual care plans for and progress of patients participating in the program.
Recommend patients for return to duty when appropriate and when rehabilitation is complete.
Provide recommendations for continued treatment, home programs, reconditioning and provides guidance on physical health, functional and adaptive activities.
Master new techniques and modality proficiency by studying current literature.
As section administrator, incumbent may be responsible for the administrative management of the section including decisions concerning the delivery of care, contributing input to budgeting and staffing priorities.
Regulate the programs and practices of the clinic to the unique characteristics and needs of the local community. 10%
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The incumbent must possess and maintain a current license to practice in a State or Territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.

- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Employee must possess and maintain an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate of training.
- Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet Physical Efforts requirements. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
- This position requires the ability to lift 40 lbs.
- This position requires credentialing. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to meet credentialing requirements.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require contact with children.
- This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
- Incumbent may be required to perform call duties; work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis.
- The work will require the incumbent to work evenings/nights; rotating shifts, extended hours or other schedules common to hospital operations.
- Occasional TDY required - 5%.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Basic Requirements for Physical Therapist:
Education: A graduate (or higher level) degree that included a physical therapy curriculum approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained, and completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school.
AND
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0633 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting physical therapy patient evaluations, developing physical therapy treatment plans, and providing education to patients or staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
