The incumbent will be part of the Pathways Program and serve as a Student Intern (Agricultural Marketing Specialist) in the Regional Office within the assigned region and is primarily responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating documents pertaining to investigations of potential violators of the Act. This includes reviewing investigative work, registration and bonding, scales, swine contract library, and complaint matters originating under the Packers and Stockyards Ac.

Duties

The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity. The duties may include, but are not limited to: Assists senior-level staff in identifying issues to prevent or correct unfair practices. Assists in reviewing scale test reports received in the regional office to determine regulatory accuracy and completeness of forms. Assists senior-level staff in investigating persons or firms subject to the Act to determine whether their operations conform with the Act and regulations. Assists in examining financial and operating records to determine evidence of compliance or noncompliance. Reviews previous investigation reports, formal orders and stipulations, and annual and special reports submitted by subject persons or firms Assists in preparing regulatory and investigation reports and notices of violations of findings of noncompliance. Assists and supports the senior-level staff in preparing regional office work plans, schedules, and developing and applying regulatory and investigation activity procedures. Assists the senior-level staff in preparing exhibits and other essential materials for preparing and presenting the investigative case.

Requirements

  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Individuals who were born male after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Must be in good academic standing as defined by their academic institution.
  • Complete at least 640 hrs of work experience prior to completion of degree.
  • Enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying educational institution.
  • A signed participant agreement is required for employment under Pathways.
  • Satisfactory Background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of two-year trial period.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. ELIGIBILITY: Students who are currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program. Interns and Interns NTE must: Be accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution on a half- to full-time basis (as determined by the educational institution); Meet the definition of a student throughout the duration of their appointments; Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the agency's Participant Agreement with the Intern and; Meet the qualification standards (e.g., series and grade) for their Internship positions. Applicants can qualify by meeting the EDUCATION requirements specified below. EDUCATION: GS-4: Completion of 2 full academic years (60 semester or 90 quarter hours) of post-high school study or an associate's degree. GS-5: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.
