This position is located in Healthcare Services, Armed Forces Retirement Home, Gulfport, MS. The primary purpose of this position is to provide medical administrative support, facilitating Resident care through documentation of medical information, retrieval, records analysis, record retention disposition and maintenance of Resident records.
Duties
As a Medical Records Technician, you will:
Accept and review individual Resident medical records, (compiling in proper order, all pertinent documents, (i.e., face sheet, discharge summary, progress notes, nurses notes, laboratory reports, etc.), following accepted procedures, verifies identification data, and corrects discrepancies.
Perform Quality Assurance (QA) audit surveys of selected subjects related to tasks performed as identified by supervisor.
Maintain unit files of AFRH Directives, HCS SOPs, policies and other directives for ready reference by unit staff.
Initiate a variety of routine and stat laboratory test and special diagnostic tests (i.e., CT scan, ultrasound, x-ray, etc.).
Schedule follow-up test, and annual examinations for AFRH Residents. Assist unit providers requests for medical records from other healthcare facilities are made.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-05: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Experience with medical terminology, medical records procedures, and techniques to organize resident charts AND
- Reviewing medical records for accuracy and completeness.
OR You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows:
Successfully completion of 4 years of education above the high school level.
OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
A combination of education and experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.
SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.
Education
Education Requirements:The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
