About the Position: his position is located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 404th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Supply & Services Division, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

Duties

Receiving, transferring, preparing for shipment, and shipping various types of material that are classed as munitions such as guided missiles, experimental motors, fuels, oxidizers, toxic chemicals, all types of ammunition, etc. Directs toxic chemical handlers, munitions handlers, and equipment operators required to perform the day-to-day warehousing operation. Operates forklift and motor vehicle in handling and transporting material. Incumbent is required to fill in for co-workers within the branch, as required.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a Tier 3 Investigation
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a CDL H license within 6 months of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Knowledge of Materials PHYSICAL EFFORT Work requires standing on hard surfaces for extended periods of time; bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from others. Light physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls of motor vehicles. Moderate physical effort is exerted in operating, turning, backing and controlling heavier vehicles. Forklift operating requires moderate physical effort in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the fork lift truck and raising, lowering, and titling the loads being moved. Strain maybe caused by the vibration of the fork lift truck. WORKING CONDITIONS Performs assignments indoors in both comfortable and uncomfortable areas, and outdoors in all but most extremely inclement weather. Work areas maybe hot, dusty, drafty, inadequately lighted, and ventilated, etc. Is subject to cuts, abrasions, injuries from equipment, or the possibility of serious injury resulting from accidents while driving and/or unloading and unloading materials.Drives in all types of traffic and on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Incumbent also drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds.The forklift operator normally works inside in areas that are sometimes damp and drafty. Occasionally works outside in all kinds of weather. Cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, forklift trucks overturning, falling objects, or accidents with other moving equipment.Works with and in proximity of unusually hazardous agents and unstable material for 25 to 65 percent of the total work cycle. The potential for injury to self is negligible except as hazards relate to high explosives, incendiaries, pyrotechnics, toxic fumes, gasses, etc.Danger to self-due to exposure to unusually hazardous agents is compensated bypremium pay, and no credit is given this element in establishing the grade level for the job.
