The employee works under the supervision of a Physical Therapist (PT) and/or Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide services that promote the prevention, remediation, and rehabilitation of acute and chronic physical dysfunction. Health Tech participates with the PT/OT in planning and implementing complex treatment program and applies therapy procedures to patients under the general supervision of PT-OT.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Knowledge of basic procedures, medical records, medical terminology, and knowledge of Physical Therapy(PT) and Occupational Therapy(OT) data collection, knowledge of basic prosthetics.
Knowledge of issues related to patient safety and skill in their application to endure that patient and staff are not subjected to unnecessary risk during their treatment.
Responsible for technical and administrative aspects of the assignments.
The Health Technician is responsible for determining the methods to perform assigned duties.
The Health Technician consults with PT/ OT for technical advice.
Positions patients as appropriate and cleans work area (soiled linen and equipment) following treatment session.
Prepares patients for wound management evaluation and/or treatment using proper techniques of safe transport, infection control, positioning and draping, and procedures appropriate supplies and equipment.
Adjust, instructs and issues assistive devices for ambulation and assist in instruction of patient in proper use, care and safety of same.
Assists in measuring and adjusting wheelchairs and instructs patients in proper use, care, and safety of same.
Performs nontechnical maintenance of equipment to prevent malfunction and maintains treatment area in a safe, orderly manner.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/14/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04, and for the GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-05
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS - 04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to; prepare and clean up treatment area, position patients as appropriate, assist with fitting/issuing/instructing in proper use of basic prosthetic, orthotic, and supportive devices. Knowledge of basic procedures, medical records, medical terminology, and knowledge of Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) data collection, knowledge of basic prosthetics.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with a major of study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. NOTE: Transcripts must be provided.
OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours. NOTE: Transcripts must be provided.
GS-06

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Requires some physical exertion such as prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, crouching, stooping, stretching, and lifting moderately heavy items such as manuals, record boxes, equipment, or assisting patients.
