You will serve as a WRITER-EDITOR in the COMMUNICATION AND OUTREACH DIVISION of NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.

Duties

You will apply knowledge of layout and design principles to format manuscript text and incorporate photos, illustrations, and other graphics to produce final digital files for the designer. You will ensure that the subject is presented clearly, thoroughly, and convincingly; in a manner appropriate to the intended audience; and in a format appropriate to the intended medium or publication in which the product will appear. You will work closely with authors or other content providers, discussing recommended changes in subject-matter treatment, obtaining information for revisions, and reconciling differences of opinion. You will maintain contact with authors and other content providers throughout the editing and production process, and evaluates their inputs at each phase to determine if the requirements of the previous phase were met. You will exercise tact and persuasion in convincing individuals to accept presentations that are not fully in accord with their perceptions or that represent opposing viewpoints as well as their own. You will evaluate the quality of imagery provided and makes final selections based on quality, appropriateness to the format of the final product, and value-added elements for the reader.

Qualifications

For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Copyediting draft texts, revising and rewriting to improve technical elements; 2) Verifying accuracy and completeness of materials provided by authors; 3) Managing the design, production, printing, and distribution of various knowledge products; 4) Utilizing desktop publishing technology to prepare manuscripts for printing and publication and; 5) Coordinating with authors to evaluate their input at each phase of the editing and production process. For the GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting more senior personnel in research, editing and proofing; 2) Researching information for accuracy; 3) utilizing desktop publishing technology for writing and editing; 4) Providing suggestions for layout and content and; 5) Performing basic copyediting, writing and document editing.
