This position is located in the Health Promotion/Disease Prevention, Division of Community Health Service, Four Corners Regional Health Center, Red Mesa, AZ. Purpose of this position is to perform duties as a community fitness and exercise program coordinator to develop programs and events, provide training to other exercise/fitness leaders, coordinate physical activity education programs in the schools, and oversee community based exercise program at the many communities served by FCRHC.
Duties
Responsible for establishing, conducting, scheduling school exercise classes independently with integration of physical activity into curriculum and programs at community based chapter, and schools; manages all funds, budget development, fiscal monitoring, and equipment assigned, consisting of financial support, grant proposals; schedule on-going community exercise program with promotional incentives including contests, special events in coordination with other Indian Health Services and tribal programs.
Ensures the development with directing all assigned employees health/fitness intervention programs; assists with evaluation of school physical activity programs including pre and post testing; assists with the coordination of provision of medical services in support of school based athletic programs, this includes working with Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Physical Therapy.
Administers records into appropriate software current fitness testing to an assigned range of adults and children; develops and maintains a computer-based registry of community fitness and high risk exercise participants indicated by medical criteria, i.e. increased lipids, diabetes, coronary disease.
Maintains the supply and equipment inventory.
Qualifications

Education
Undergraduate and Graduate Education Major study - general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreations (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education.
GS-07: 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement

Experience
Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty area of recreation Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
Planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs.
Planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels.
Instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management.
Serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations.
GS-07: Candidate must have completed 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
