This position serves as a Supply Technician located at the Milwaukee VA The incumbent is responsible to assure that adequate supplies are on hand to provide prosthetic equipment to patients.
Duties
Major Duties:
Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates.
Checks inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts; ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible, and escalating significant deviations to the supervisor.
Performs routine inventory checks by using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders.
Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock.
Delivers supplies to other clinic locations in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring supplies and materials delivered are in sterile and operational condition.
Keeps assigned inventory areas clean in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled.
Supports wall-to-wall and periodic inventories. As needed, assists in other functional areas of Prosthetics.
Requires assembling of durable medical equipment such as walkers, manual wheelchairs, etc.
Requires traveling off station to contracted vendor to count inventory and review PAR levels.
Prepares items for shipment and then transporting the item to the warehouse for mail out.
Receives supplies and materials for Prosthetics and supported catchment area. Unpacks/uncrates supplies from shipping cartons; properly stores supplies and material in assigned inventory areas. Stores items in accordance with established guidelines, utilizing a computerized inventory system, to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and equipment.
Checks veteran eligibility, pull from inventory and stock issue to veteran's record

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Supply Technician position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in federal service to qualify at the Grade 5. Examples of specialized experience include (but are not limited to): Skill to stock items in order to advise and assist staff and patients concerning proper set up and use of items; Skill in supply accountability rules and regulations in order to correctly process necessary paperwork; Knowledge of proper supply and equipment handling, to avoid accidents, injury, and loss, damage, or destruction of property through incorrect work procedures; Skill of general administrative work to include basic filing, updating documents, and sorting mail

EDUCATION: Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable for this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the majority of the workday with frequent bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 40 pounds). The employee regularly pushes loaded carts weighing several hundred pounds and works then over slight rises such as doors sills. Considerable amount of pulling, bending, stooping, stretching and reaching is done when stocking medical supplies.
