Duties
- Coordinates the operation and maintenance of Area Office network of automated hydrologic and meteorologic monitoring stations.
- Performs onsite inspection and repairs of monitoring stations and satellite telemetry equipment.
- Evaluates, revises and updates various reservoir and river data including elevation and storage tables, stage-discharge rating tables, river shift values, and gate discharge rating tables for all Area Office HYDROMET sites.
- Computes and validates instrument readings, and reconciling anomalies of various hydrologic factors and measurement site conditions to ensure reliability of data collected.
- Prepares various final records of publication and distribution on a reoccurring basis.
- Plans and develops instrument arrays for monitoring station sites which includes layouts, equipment, facilities, and structures for reservoir and related monitoring locations, including development of supporting design and cost data.
Qualifications

GS-09:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-08 level in federal service or non-federal equivalent having experience participating in hydrologic research including collecting hydrologic data; operating remote data collection sites; or utilizing data collection or monitoring devices.
OR
Education: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree, in a directly related field to the position.
OR
Combination of specialized experience and graduate education as defined above.
GS-10:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-09 level in federal service or non-federal equivalent having experience participating in hydrologic research including collecting and evaluating hydrologic data; operating remote data collection sites; and utilizing data collection or monitoring devices.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 11/15/2024.
Education
This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience at the GS-09 grade level. You must submit a copy of college transcript(s) (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. A typed list of courses, grades, semester/quarter hours, GPA, etc. will not be accepted. Non-submission may result in being rated not-qualified for the position.
