The Laundry Supervisor provides leadership, technical & administrative supervision, and management to the Textile Care Section in Environmental Management Service at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center (VAMC). The Textile Care Section performs the full-range of laundry services and transportation services for the Spokane VAMC and Walla Walla VAMC. The Textile Care Section also performs laundry and transportation services to community hospitals located in Spokane under contract with the VA.

Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to: Plan work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates Review the serviceability of linens Ensures there is an adequate supply of clean linen and uniforms available Orders supplies and materials. Schedules and approves leave requests Perform routine laundry duties such as: folding, ironing, linen delivery, and operation of washers and dryers Approving official for government purchase card Ensures all safety, life safety, health, emergency management, and hazardous material regulations and directives are followed Communication with various customers, internal and external Administer quality assurance program for laundry products and services. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 11/11/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. The screen-out element for the Laundry Supervisor position is the ability to lead or supervise. Duties may include but not limited to: Directs the activities of staff including work assignment, performance evaluation, and employee development; ordering supplies and materials; recommendations or improvements; maintains records and prepares reports; assists in the development of departmental standard operating procedures; linen/laundry service; folding, feeding flatwork into ironer, linen delivery, operation of washers and dryers as necessary and insure timely delivery of linen and laundry; handles conflict and problems in dealing with customers constructively and appropriately. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The position requires continuous standing, walking, hand/eye coordination, turning, bending, overhead reaching and heavy lifting at least 50 pounds when performing "working supervisor" duties. Incumbent must be able to push or pull up to 500-pound carts mounted on rollers. Work is inside in well lighted areas, subject to noise, hazards, lint, hot, humidity and movement of operating equipment. The incumbent is required to wear protective clothing when working in areas where mandatory due to exposure to infectious disease and biological waste. Safety precautions will be observed at all times.
