About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Director of Nursing/Mixed Med/Surg Unit W/Out Peds at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Eisenhower in Augusta, Georgia. The primary purpose is to perform direct patient care and care coordination activities such as referral management, order reconciliation, and activity tracking.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
Duties
Obtain information from patient and/or family to identify major complaints, symptoms, or reason for seeking health care.
Provide individualized nursing care to patients of all ages based upon the physician’s medical care plan, the nursing assessment, and the physical, mental and emotional needs of the patient.
Screen and review immunization records to select required immunizations, correct dosages, and routes of administration in accordance with regulations and policies.
Administer oral, intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular immunizations to all age groups IAW established protocols.
Perform teaching to patients and/or family regarding self-care procedures and documents teaching.
Perform both administrative and logistical tasks as a member of the healthcare team for the clinic by contributing to maintaining the environment and resources to deliver healthcare.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position may require incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and/or varying work schedules.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekend, holiday, or special situations. Employees shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This is a Mission Essential position. Employee is required to remain in place or report for duty during inclement weather conditions or other appropriate emergency conditions.
- This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

use prior to appointment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on
reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Basic Requirement for Practical Nurse:
Licensure:
Applicants must possess a current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia; OR must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Those not licensed must furnish the date on which they applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below:
Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as assisting with adult patient care within a medical treatment facility (MTF) or clinic; taking and recording patient's vitals into medical records, assisting with administering immunizations or medications to assigned patients, screening or updating patient medical records, and assisting with performing routine procedures. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
