About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Eisenhower, Georgia. Incumbent will provide meal service and food preparation for the dining facility within the command.
Duty Hours are: 0500-1330 or 1000-1830. Incumbent will rotate between the 2 shifts.
Duties
Utilize a microwave to cook or re-heat a variety of simple hot foods.
Prepare cold foods such as sandwiches, salads, desserts, and beverages for patients, staff, and hospital visitors.
Perform tray assembly duties including preparation, assembly, and delivery with regard to dieticians' orders.
Pick up trays following meal completion, remove food from patient trays for dishwashing preparation, and then readies cart for next meal.
Maintain clean workspace in compliance with established food safety regulations.
Requirements
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of 18 years of age on a recurring basis.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Incumbent must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- Must be able to obtain/maintain a Food Handler's Certification.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has been designated Weather Essential. In the event of inclement weather conditions, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Incumbent will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
- Incumbent will be required to wear a uniform.
- Incumbent will be required to wear protective shoes.
- This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has been designated as Key and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Food Service Worker duties including preparing cold foods such as sandwiches, salads, desserts, and beverages for customers; assembling food items for patient and/or customer trays. I can remove trash and uneaten food from tables and/or patient rooms; arrange dishes and utensils for washing; clean food surfaces such as tables, tray tables or counters for next diners. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves prolonged periods of standing and walking and frequent stooping, bending, reaching, pulling and pushing. Regularly lifts and moves objects weighing up to forty pounds with some occasional lifting of heavier items with assistance. Regularly pushes food carts weighing 45 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The area is generally well lighted however is considered hot as is typical of kitchen areas in which ovens and steam constantly produce heat and humidity. The area is frequently noisy with exposure to burns, cuts, bruises, scrapes or broken bones resulting from falls or slips on wet surface, hot liquids, foods or cooking surfaces, equipment or utensils. The employee follows prescribed safety procedures and is required to wear safety shoes. Regularly pushes food carts weighing 45 pounds.
