This position is located in Grand Canyon National Park, North Rim, in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately February to late-October, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties

Major Duties: The incumbent directs the daily activities of a work group in a complex fee collection operation which consists of entrance stations, campgrounds, collection stations in visitor center settings and self-pay stations via automated fee machines. Incumbent is also responsible for the reconciliation, remittance and deposit of fees collected. Incumbent is responsible for the recruitment and hiring of fee collection staff and volunteers; creates plans, schedules and assigns work to subordinate staff; approves leave and assures timely completion of time and attendance reports. The incumbent evaluates work performance of subordinate staff, addresses employee development, training, issues and concerns. Incumbent is a subject matter expert in relation to the NPS fee collection program and provides technical and policy direction to subordinates and park staff. North Rim Area Information: The North Rim District is situated on the rim of the Grand Canyon amidst the vast public lands of the Arizona Strip. It is about 20 miles from the South Rim by a strenuous hike through the Grand Canyon or a 215 mile drive which takes approximately 4 hours. The nearest community with full range of services is located in Kanab, UT approximately 80 miles from the North Rim. The elevation on the North Rim is about 8,200 feet and consequently the climate in the summer is mild with highs in the 80's and lows in the 50's. Between May 15 and October 15 the North Rim receives approximately 500,000 visitors. The North Rim has a robust concession operation which features a historic full service lodge with accommodations serving around 500 visitors, 230 concession employees, a general store, post office, mule ride concession, gas station, campground, etc. Beyond the North Rim Village the district has about 20 miles of paved scenic roads, 80 miles of high clearance 4 wheel drive roads, and hundreds of miles of trails/routes including immediate access to the North Kaibab Trail/cross-canyon corridor. Recreational opportunities include hiking, running, climbing, canyoneering, rafting, road/mountain biking, skiing, and numerous other options in nearby communities such as St. George, Utah and Page, Arizona. Zion National Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument are all within a half day drive. Employees are assigned quarters, possibly shared, in a cabin, apartment, or house.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/19/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-08 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: (1) leading and training others in operating an electronic cash register; (2) provides oversight of fee collection operations; (3) serves as a front-line representative of the agency; (4) supervises and evaluates subordinate staff and communicates verbally; and (5) operates and troubleshoots computers and electronic equipment. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
