About the Position: Serve as a Personnel Security Specialist (Suitability), advising Army personnel and managers on Agency suitability programs and is engaged in processing centralized background checks and making suitability determinations for personnel across the Department of Army, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.
Duties
Ensuring that the work assignments of employees of the team are carried out by performing a range of duties
Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization, and will assure timely success of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy.
Keep abreast of the status and progress of work, and make day- to- day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise
Provide centralized suitability background check processing services for all personnel Army-wide, to include those who have regular contact with children, uncleared contractors, volunteers, and government civilians employed by the Army.
Maintain records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepare production reports as requested.
Providing or arranging for needed development and training.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance
- In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, the incumbent of this position must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Must satisfactorily complete the Office of Personnel Management (OPM)Fundamentals of Suitability for Suitability and Fitness Adjudicators Course and obtain the required certification of training within one year of selection to the position.
- This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.
- Employee is required to complete the Center for the Development of Security Excellence (CDSE): Introduction to Suitability Adjudications for DoD within 30 days of placement.

Specialized Experience GS 12: One year of specialized experience which includes processing centralized background checks and making suitability, fitness, and credentialing determinations; interpreting adjudication guidance, policies, and regulations; preparing detailed written adjudicative analysis, citing applicable provisions of suitability, fitness, and credentialing guidance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Specialized Experience GS 11: One year of specialized experience which includes documenting suitability, fitness, and credentialing determinations; applying appropriate adjudication guidance, policies, and regulations; preparing detailed written adjudicative reports for higher level review. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Education Substitution: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as National Security, Criminal Justice, or Humanities. OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Have the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required three years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.).
