The Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor position is organizationally part of Facilities Management Services at the Lake City VA Medical Center. This position is part of Engineering Services. The incumbent reports to the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor who reports to the Lake City Chief of Engineering. Incumbent serves as the Supervisor of the Carpenter/Paint shop. The incumbent supervises approximately 8 permanent FTEE.

Duties

Major duties include, but are not limited to: Ability to develop goals, objectives, prepare policies, procedures and organize different tasks for construction projects. Ability to administer personnel documentation, awards, performance, approval of leave, counsel employees on problems and work with union representatives. Ability to independently plan, supervises and coordinates various construction projects/renovations. Knowledgeable of the trades under their supervision (i.e. carpentry, painting, plastering, masonry, electrical, wallpaper hanging, and maintenance mechanics. Ability to coordinate with other supervisors and their construction projects. Ability to implement and monitor compliance and adherence with directives, laws, federal, state, and maintenance procedures ensuring employee and worker safety. Ability to plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completions of work. Ability to assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of the employees. Ability to evaluate performance of staff, and finds ways to improve productions or increase quality of work. Responsible to develop performance standards. Ability to review and track all work orders and inspection requirements under his/her area of responsibility. Ability to make decisions on work problems presented by team leaders or contractors. Responsible for supervision, assigning, reviewing and coordinating the renovation, installation, new construction, repairs or preventative maintenance for the Gainesville VA Hospital. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: All work is performed within a hospital setting. Incumbent must be physically able to stand, stoop, turn, crouch and balance in difficult positions. The incumbent must be able to climb ladders, work in close physical spaces and lift 60 pounds when necessary. Incumbent will be required to supervise from/on scaffolding, high ladders, or roof tops, outside in inclement weather including extreme heat and during hurricane alerts.
