This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
Duties
Develops updated Inventory and Monitoring protocols for terrestrial wildlife, specifically island fox, landbirds, herpetofauna, and deer mice.
Carries out data collection protocols for the monitoring of native wildlife. Conducts analysis of complex data and prepares scientific reports. Presents results to a variety of audiences.
Carries out program management duties by developing work plans and schedules, scopes of work, cost estimates, and proposals and/or grants to justify funding requests and accomplish goals.
Coordinates the park's native wildlife management strategies and programs with those on adjacent lands for the purpose of achieving broad ecosystem protection strategies.
Represents the park on NPS regional task groups or similar organizations. Develops partnerships with other federal and state agencies, universities, tribes, and non-profit organizations to assist with meeting goals and objectives of the program.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess the following qualification requirements by close of the announcement:
Basic Requirements:
EDUCATION: Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's, or higher degree, in the major field of study in biology, or a related biological science, that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences, AND at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to zoology, such as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects. (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.) You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include duties such as: Participating in the planning and execution of ecological or biological studies with a limited number of variables; performing established, standardized tests and analyses on a broad range of biological samples; conducting studies using established fact-finding and evaluation procedures; conducting long-term monitoring of biological or ecosystem components; design, develop, test, and implement scientific monitoring protocols; developing scientifically credible protection, mitigation, and restoration projects; or developing and carrying out statistically valid data collection protocols. You must list number of hours worked per week on your resume.

Education: successfully completed at least three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to biology, or physical science, engineering or mathematics or directly related fields, which is directly related to the work of this position and demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

Combination of Education and Experience. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described (50% of the experience requirement), and 27 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of directly related graduate level college study in an accredited institution as defined above (50% of the qualifying education). You must list number of hours worked per week on your resume and submit a copy of your transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
