This position serves as a Medical Equipment Worker for the Wheelchair Repair Section, assisting the Prosthetic Representative and working under the supervision of the Prosthetic & Sensory Aids Service Chief at the Las Vegas Southern Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS)
The incumbent will carry out a full range of duties in the wheelchair repair section of the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service.
Duties
The incumbent must have a sound working knowledge of prosthetic work orders, physician prescriptions, utility work orders, and warehousing operations.
Must have knowledge of basic medical terminology, anatomy, Physiology, and materials, particularly those required in the care and treatment of patients related to the durable medical equipment, wheelchairs and scooters.
The incumbent will be experienced and skillful with the assembly, fitting, modification and repair of rehabilitative equipment, even when no diagrams or schematics are available.
The incumbent will not only be knowledgeable of the durable medical equipment products, but astute in understanding how the appliances work be able to diagnose and provide solutions to common repairs as well as skillful assembly, fitting, and modification of power wheelchairs.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0730-1600, determined by needs of service

Physical Requirements: The incumbent is required to do a great deal of stooping and bending from the wheelchair position or stooping and bending while inspecting and repairing wheelchairs and scooters. They will retrieve parts from shelves up to seven feet off the floor. Safety wheelchair mobility guidelines are always used when working on the chair. They will carry and move heavy items of supplies from storage to work areas. These loads may exceed 20 lbs in weight but should not have exceeded 50 lbs without assistive devices. Equipment may have to be delivered to the medical wards. This will require a great deal of walking poor mobility care is taken exercised to avoid minor injuries such as cuts scrapes and bruises and all lifting is done in a proper manner to avoid strains or sprains, etc.
